The Doctor’s Pledge

A condition for any doctor being allowed to practice at this hospital is to pledge to:

• Make the care of their patients their first concern
• Treat every patient politely and considerately
• Respect patient’s dignity and privacy
• Listen to patients and respect their views
• Give patients information in a way they can understand
• Respect the right of patient’s to be fully involved in their treatment decisions
• Keep their professional knowledge and skills up to date
• Recognise the limit of their professional confidence
• Respect and protect confidential information
• Ensure that their personal beliefs do not jeopardise patient care
• Act quickly to protect patients from risk if they or colleagues are not fit to practice
• Never abuse their position as doctor
